Fortunately for me, I knew what sex was by the time I was 6 years old. I clearly remember when the other kids in my kindergarten class found out. I thought to myself, "Haha I already know what sex is!" My mother never withheld this type of information from me and I'm glad she didn't because it saved me.
I remember distinctly watching a show called Fences and one of the characters (a young boy) asked his parents what a condom was, so I asked my mother. She went into the closet (I was 6 or 7), she pulled out a condom, took it out of the wrapper, and rolled it down her arm, then proceeded to explain. If it had not been for my mother I would have probably been a teen mom.
I was raised by my father and step-mother, and they never talked or educated me on anything about sex. When I finally decided to find out what sex was, my first planned experience did not occur only because they guy did not have a condom. I remembered what my mother taught me about a condom at the age of 6. So, I should be thanking my mom for sharing that piece of info. See the power of knowledge! If it weren't for her I would have been a mother myself in my preteens or even contracted an incurable std. Thanks Mom!
